Chairman's Welcome
Dear Water Quality Professionals,
I welcome and strongly encourage your participation in Water Arabia 2011 because of its importance to the Gulf Region’s future.  Together, we can use sustainable technologies and policies to help prevent future water shortages.  It is a well known fact that the Gulf Region is rapidly using up its groundwater resources.  The UN FAO 2009 Water Report 34 shows that the GCC countries use 30,699 million cubic meters of water per year, but get only 4,144 million cubic meters of renewable water per year from rainfall.   Seventy five percent of the water used by GCC countries is groundwater (commonly known as fossil water) that is not renewable, and eleven percent of the water used comes from desalination and wastewater re-use.  In order to better provide for the future, we need more sustainable water sources, including further innovative sea water desalination, together with recycling and conservation policies to control both human and agricultural consumption.  In the interim, our non-renewable water sources must be used in an environmentally responsible manner for their maximum benefit

Water Arabia 2011 is being organized to highlight the magnitude of the water sustainability problem in the region, and to provide solutions. We hope to promote communication between all water industry leaders and professionals to better address the vital issue of water sustainability.

The theme of Water Arabia 2011 is “Innovative Water & Wastewater Technologies for a Sustainable Environment.” The conference program is designed to provide the Gulf Region water professionals with information on innovative water and wastewater technologies that can be used to help the Gulf Region develop a sustainable water environment.

Many thanks to His Excellency His Excellency Fahmi Bin Ali Aljowder,Minister of Electricity & Water Affairs, Kingdom of Bahrain , for his patronage of this important event. We appreciate and look forward to the participation of attendees, our sponsors, presenters and exhibitors, all of whom are making this event possible.
